The Octavius was a New Republic vessel originally built as a Majestic-class heavy cruiser and later overhauled and refitted to serve as a deep space science ship. During the middle of the Yuuzhan Vong war she was sent out a classified mission to perform research into new ways to combat the Vong threat. Shortly after she left port all contact was lost. The ship was presumed to have encountered enemy forces and been destroyed. Years later she was discovered adrift in open space by a Core Galaxy Systems survey team.
