Martlet was an intelligence cruiser operated by the Osarian Guard. The canonized version (Martlet II) was a heavily modified Victory II Star Destroyer; the original Martlet, mothballed along with the rest of the Guard's non-canon ships when Universe 1.5 came online, was a Daedalion/Esk Intel cruiser.

Martlet's name was inspired by a medieval heraldic beast. The ship's namesake was a mythological bird, similar to a swallow, that would die if it ever landed. As a result, it became the symbol for someone who never rested rested from seeking knowledge, making the name ideal for a ship whose sole purpose is to gather information.
