The Firefly-class was a transport ship which dated back well into the Old Republic era. A few ships of the class were found still flying throughout the years, even as far forward as the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

Layout[]

The interior of the ship was constructed along a main corridor, running from the bridge at the front, right through to the engine room at the back. In the middle was a dining room and main seating area. Steps lead down from the corridor, at both sides of the dining hall, to a catwalk above the cargo hold.

The main front ramp opened directly into the cargo bay, through a full-door airlock. At the rear of the catwalk was steps to the infirmary and passenger dorms, and also access gangways to the shuttles.

Shuttles[]

Main Article: Firefly Shuttle

A Firefly-class vessel came equipped with two short range shuttles. They could hold four passengers each, and they could leave the atmosphere and reach wide orbit before needing to dock with the main Firefly-class. The shuttles were conventionally used by passengers, to land in a different place to the main ship. They were also faster in an atmosphere, so could be used to make speedier landings, for example, when under fire.

Systems[]

The Firefly-class used a Trace Compression Hyperdrive, an old drive system which included the Compression Coil as its main hyperspacial field guide.

The ship's main power was taken from the rotation of the Trace Compression Hyperdrive (sometimes known as the Trace Compression Block), which meant the main power would die if the main drive Block ever stopped rotating (as was sometimes the case in the event of a Compression Coil breakage.) This would cause the failure of all systems that require power, including life support, unless a backup generator was carried.

Behind the Scenes[]

The ship was featured in the sixth strip of Evasive Action: Prey[2], appearing as a cameo from the TV series Firefly.

User:Calmaen vor Lalimar decided to use the ship for his character, Calmaen vor Lalimar and found it useful to use the Firefly systems, modifying them to fit into Star Wars canon. This has resulted in the more detailed description available here.
